My state’s governor (Rick Scott; Florida) is trying to tell us that psychology, anthropology, history and many other majors that he deems to be “liberal arts are worthless.
He wants to make steep cuts to funding for these programs in colleges. This puts my education — my money, my time, my effort, my blood sweat and tears, in serious danger.
And it’s not just mine. Thousands of Florida college students are about to begin or are already working toward these degrees, and Rick Scott wants to effectively make academic life a living hell for all of us.
I’m sure he means well, but we can’t allow this to happen. I don’t get money from the government to study psychology. I have to take out student loans, which means I am responsible for everything I pour into my education, plus interest. I spend hours upon hours of my life working and studying — I am a 4.0 student. I chose this degree to help people. There are countless others like me. Should we not have our interests defended?
Please, if you have the time, sign this and boost the signal. It would mean the world to me and to thousands of others in those study areas.
As a Floridian, I can honestly say Rick Scott is an absolute douchenozzle (unsurprising, since he’s a Tea Party...
I feel like it’s hypocritical to declare history as a useless part of education if politics rely so heavily on it.
Can everyone just do me a favor and reblog and sign this? I’m majoring in psychology and medicine and this entire bill...
